Why this reading may fit
Genuine humor is stable under restatement (“to be clear, that was a joke” — before uptake). The corpus pattern is valence-contingent and retroactive: the label “sarcasm” arrives only after adverse reaction, while favorable uptake is never corrected — a pattern consistent with a deniability system, and the asymmetry is what a reader should check for. Whatever the speaker’s tone, uptake is a fact: an audience heard the line straight, and the record shows no correction reaching it.
